1943-2017

J D Sloan, 74, of Ashland passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 at his residence. He was born November 9, 1943 in Ashland, KY; a son of the late Carl and Ann Osteen Sloan.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, George Sloan.

He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Catlettsburg, where he was a Sunday school teacher for many years. J D was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jeanie Edwards Sloan; a son, Thomas (Catherine) Sloan of Russell; a daughter, Tonya (Billy) Harris of Catlettsburg; a brother, Carl (Ann Lee) Sloan of Ashland; six grandchildren, the late Kyle Harris, Kevin and Kari Harris, Thomas Sloan Jr. and Jennifer and Matthew Sloan; a great-granddaughter, Skyler Ann Sloan.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, Bob Baldridge minister. Burial will follow in Cribbs Hill Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
