Obituary for Lorene Ward (Whitt)
Lorene Whitt Ward, 91, of Grayson went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at her residence. She was born on September 20, 1931; the daughter of the late Joner and Sible Shearer Whitt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Joe Ward; a brother, Earl Whitt; two sisters, Hazel Harrison and Millie Mayo; three nephews, James Earl Rice, Ercel Rice, and Everett Rice.
Lorene was a homemaker and family caregiver. She and Joe faithfully served the Lord along with family, friends, and neighbors. She was a charter member of the Smith Branch Enterprise Baptist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Mary L. Griffith; two nephews, Eddie Roberts and Dennis Whitt; six nieces, Rosa Green, Joy Hamilton, Beverly Nangle, Linda Bush, Shirley Bowing, and Janie Salmon; and a host of extended family, friends, and neighbors.
The family would like to give special thanks to her exceptional caregivers, Roberta Stamper, Patty Lester, Chanda Rodger, and Community Hospice of Ashland.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, Chauncy Griffith, minister. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Grayson.
Visitation will be Monday, September 11, 2023 from 12:00 (noon) until service time.
