Obituary for Kathy Sparks

Kathryn “Kathy” Sparks, 73, of Grayson passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. She was born November 7, 1948 in Upper Sandusky, OH; a daughter of the late Earl and Mary Lucille McMillen Willis.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband and father of her children, Charles Riffe in 1980; her son, Charles David “Chuck” Riffe in 2001; two grandchildren, Recie Jones and Logan Trent; three brothers, Rex Willis, Gary Willis, and Mike Willis; three sisters, Phyllis “Jeannie” Willis Rice, Martha “Lou” Willis Stevens Fraley, and Linda Willis Cooper.

Following her retirement from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health & Family Services in 2012, Kathy worked for the Carter County Attorney’s office until 2015. She loved and worshipped the Lord, attending Lake Road Freewill Baptist Church since 2005.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Michael Joe Sparks; two sons, Wayne Eddie Riffe (Lori Trent) of Alabama, and Bradley Taylor (Bobbi) Riffe, of Lexington, KY; a bonus daughter, Heather (Phillip) Morris of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren, Chloe Morris, Devin Wayne Trent, Clarissa (Tyler) Riffe, Caitlin Riffe, Karla (Clayton) Riffe, Alexandra Riffe Smith, Darrien Riffe, and Kiara Riffe; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sparks Funeral Home, Grant Sammons, pastor. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be Saturday September 3, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
