Obituary for Harlan Lee Newman

Harlan Newman, 88, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 on Zornes Branch. He was born October 9, 1933 in Carter County; a son of the late Leroy and Florence Collier Newman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cooper Newman; a daughter, Lisa Newman; four brothers, Clyde, Albert, Lloyde and Larry; and a sister, Irene Griffin.

He was a member and attended the Glory Hill Community Church. Harlan worked for many years in maintenance with the Carter County Board of Education, and he was a lifelong farmer.

He is survived by two daughters, Anita (Mike) Everman and Olla Sparks (Ronnie McGlone) both of Grayson, KY; a brother, Carlos (Loretta) Newman of Grayson; four sisters, Hazel Burton, Christine Grooms, Helen Harold, and Mildred Fleenor all of Ohio; four grandchildren, Makayla (Keenan) Weese, Dakota Everman, Matthew (Cheryl) Sparks, and Ricky (Kayla) Sparks; four step-grandchildren, Chelsea Beane, Kayden Hall, Hailey Stilton, and Jordan Sloan; two great-granddaughters, Adaline Weese and Leeah Sparks.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, Carlos and Mike Newman, minister. Burial will follow in the Horsley Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, January 31, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
