1940-2021
Donald Ray Sweeney, 80, of Olive Hill, passed away at his residence Thursday, June 3, 2021. He was born November 28, 1940, at Gregoryville, KY, a son of the late Ted and Georgia Justice Sweeney.
Don was of the Baptist faith, a member of the American Legion Post 138, Olive Hill, KY, and a Kentucky Colonel. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He had been employed by Wolohan Lumber Company and more recently with Mead Construction Company as a construction supervisor.
He is survived by four sons; Terry (Cathy) Sweeney, Joe Sweeney, Jeff Sweeney, all of Olive Hill, KY, and Eric Deerfield of Gregoryville, Ky; three daughters, Leah (Steve) Glass of Grayson, Shyla Hite of Milton, WV and Randi Sweeney of Olive Hill, KY; a brother, Tommy Joe (Janet) Sweeney of Gregoryville; a sister, Mary Ellen (Paul Ray) Conley of Grayson.
Funeral services will Monday, June 7, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast. The Patriot Guard will provide escort with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 138 Olive Hill, KY.
Visitation will be Monday, June 7, 2021 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
