Obituary for Ann Womack (McGuire)

Alice Ann McGuire Womack, age 73, loving mother of two, and adoring wife to husband Steve, passed away in her home in the early hours of September 11th, 2023 after a courageous battle with lung disease. Ann was born in Grayson, Kentucky on April 30, 1950 to Wayne and Imogene (Cartee) McGuire and grew up surrounded by the large and close-knit McGuire family who lived and breathed car racing. Ann was influenced by her family (specifically her grandmother Ollie) to be a loving and caring woman, always putting others first.

Though Ann and Steve went to the same high school, they didn’t officially meet until 1972 when Ann was driving a brand-new black GTO down Main Street and caught Steve’s eye. Steve had to meet the gorgeous girl driving the cool car and their life-long love story began. Steve and Ann married on December 18, 1976 at Lindsey Chapel in Grayson and while famously they didn’t invite anyone but their parents to their wedding, the church was full for the service. Ann and Steve raised two daughters, Lynsey and Mikki, who were Ann’s pride and joy.

Along with her husband Steve, Ann managed successful real estate businesses, farming operations, and a self-storage business, all while raising her two daughters. She was the glue that held the Womack family and businesses together. When Ann’s vision forced her retirement, she took her boundless energy outside. Ann loved to garden, both vegetables and flowers, and spent her summers working harder than ever planting, harvesting, and canning. She was an accomplished cook and entertainer, and nothing made her happier than planning and cooking elaborate meals with her girls. She passed on her love of cooking and entertaining to both daughters. Ann enjoyed spending her winters in Florida and also traveled across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, southeast Asia and South America, though when asked her favorite place that she ever visited, she always said home. Ann was a member of the First Church of Christ of Grayson. She was married to the love of her life for almost 47 years.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Wayne McGuire, Jr., and daughter Stephanie Ann Womack. Ann is survived by her husband, Steve Womack, daughters Lynsey Womack-Denney and Mikki Eldridge, and her two favorite sons-in-law Josh Denney and Aaron Eldridge. Ann is also survived by five grandchildren whom she doted on and spoiled immensely: Schuyler Denney, Annabelle Denney, Asher Eldridge, Smith Eldridge, and Harrison Denney. As her health declined, she developed a great affection for her dear friend and faithful caregiver, Hope Manning.

The family will receive friends from 12pm-3pm on Saturday, September 16th, 2023 at the First Church of Christ, 287 Pomeroy Street, Grayson, Kentucky. Funeral service will follow at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Fostering Possibilities, Attn: Debbie Prichard, 380 Lakeview Circle, Grayson, KY 41143.
